Minnesota State Fair 2023 – Friends version

I think most everyone knows that we are die hard fair goers. So when our friends were planning a trip to Minnesota this summer we suggested that they plan it around the Great Minnesota Get-Together. Their trip was primarily for our second annual Bemidji Boyz Music Camp, a clever name for a reunion of musical friends. And so we took them to our fair after we spent time at our cabin up north. My daughter was also able to meet us at the fair and we all had a great time!

We started our day at The Peg, the only sit down restaurant at the fair. The food’s pretty good but the wait this year was not the best. But eat we did and onward into the Horticulture Building because we all wanted to see the crop art. It was pretty busy for opening day this year so of course there was a line to see the art. But it is so worth it!! Lots of great entries again this year. I even captured an artist creating a piece of crop art. Here’s my first gallery of photos. We spent time in the cows and horses barns and then we went to go to the Grand Stand because there was a shop in there that my friends wanted to find. There were lots of people in there so while they shopped I found a bench to sit on outside. It was at that point that hubby and I decided we had seen enough for one day. We typically go first thing in the morning and leave about 1:00 or 2:00 because we can come back another day, or in hubby’s case, other days. The others wanted to see and experience more of the fair so we left them there and took the bus back to our car and I picked them up after they were done. We went back the following Monday and got to see the fine arts, something I never miss and something we didn’t have time for on opening day. I also got my Kiwanis malt that I get every year. Yum! My daughter got a raspberry malt from the Moo Booth and that was also yummy!

And here’s a gallery of photos my friend sent me from their time at the fair after we left.

I’m in the process of creating a post of our reunion at the cabin like I did for last year’s reunion so stay tuned for that. And until next year at the fair!

  1. Awww, so sweet. I wish we had seen the Fine Arts building. Those items were great. Especially love the Mosaic! Until next year…

    1. Oh, it’s just the Kiwanis organization’s stand right outside the fine arts building where I always get a malt. Thanks for looking! Glad you enjoyed.

  2. We went on the last evening and then also the next morning on the last day of the Fair this year … two of the hottest days and they had sent the animals home early due to the heat, but that’s how schedules worked (my oldest has not missed coming back for the Fair — other than the year it was closed for COVID — since moving to Boston after college in 2018)!
