L.A. County Fair – Pomona, CA

While our daughter was here in May we did so many fun things, including going to the L.A. County Fair. It’s taken me some time to get this post going and I’ll get to that shortly. I used to go to this fair while growing up here but I didn’t recognize anything as it’s likely been about 40 years since I visited.

We caravanned with our friends on the way there and actually lost them at one point. But we all made it there just after it opened.

It was a rather hot day and I had just started on new medication so I wasn’t feeling the best and, in fact, at one point I got really dizzy. I was avoiding drinking much water so that I wouldn’t have to wait in line to use the bathroom very often. And I think I got a little dehydrated which caused my dizziness but likely the new medication played a role.

We saw all kinds of interesting things including panning for gold, the flower exhibit, a low riders car exhibit and what I’m calling the “creative activities” building. That was such a nice refuge from the heat! This first gallery shows the trains, panning for gold, the girls sawing a log and the flower building(not sure of exact name).

Next, some photos of the low-riders car exhibit and the table settings as well as other creative items from the “creative activities” building. I had been going to the Minnesota State Fair for many years and I don’t recall seeing table settings there. But then we hardly ever went into the Creative Activities building there. So these table settings were so interesting and beautiful.

As we were approaching an outdoor area full of merchants selling their wares, there were artists making drawings of fair-goers. One of the artists looked right at hubby and said “I want you.” At the time he called hubby over there was nobody on the benches and he thought if he could get hubby to sit for a portrait that others would also come and sit and it worked. By the time the artist was done drawing hubby, all the benches were filled. And he gave him the finished drawing at no charge. Also included in the gallery below are other fair photos.

It was a nice, albeit hot, day at the L.A. County Fair. I noticed that we entered the fair at the “fun zone” where all the games where you can win prizes are located. And I guess I’m old now because it was very loud and that bothered me. Later in the week I perused the website to see if there was another parking area where we didn’t have to enter at the fun zone and there was! However, I’m not sure I’ll be going back to the fair much. It’s so far away and it’s rather expensive too. We went on a day they were having a food drive and we all got in with 5 cans of food each. I did enjoy our day at the fair but I think I’ll give it a couple of years and decide if I want to go again.
