A review of Redstone American Grill, Minnetonka, MN

Tonight I was privileged enough to get invited to a work dinner at Redstone American Grill in Minnetonka, MN.  A bunch of managers from across the country were in town for meetings and I tagged along for dinner and got to catch up with co-workers.  One in the group(there were about 15 of us) is retiring at the end of the month so she was presented with a card and gift and that was very fun.

We started off with two sampler appetizer platters, one on each end of the two connected tables.  Each platter contained buffalo jumbo shrimp(buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing), seared ahi tuna (sesame seed and black pepper crusted sushi grade tuna, Asian slaw, wasabi and soy-lime sauce (served rare and chilled)), grilled chicken wings (chipotle ranch dressing, spicy peppers & scallions) and sliders (mini hamburgers – are sliders known outside of Minnesota?).  I had one shrimp and one wing.  I usually don’t like to have appetizers because I never have room for my dinner. But tonight, I made an exception because the food looked so good!!  We all had drinks ranging from hot water to raspberry tea to beer to white and red wines.  I selected a wine from Spain, because, you know me and Spain have this thing going on, he he.  But the waitress cautioned me that it had a peppery flavor and so I thought I better not try that one. Instead I had another wine from Alexander Valley (I had a yummy two glasses of a different Alexander Valley wine  at Roxy in Reno recently), a meritage called Stonestreet “5th Ridge” which was equally yummy.

For dinner I had their barbecue pork tenderloin which is described on their menu like this: raspberry barbecue sauce, mashed sweet potatoes, seasonal vegetables and grilled red onions.  I think it was the mashed sweet potatoes that were calling to me and they did not disappoint.  The asparagus was underdone but everything else was delicious.  The pork was very good but I think the sweet potatoes were my favorite on that dish.  They were topped with a little bit of finely chopped walnuts, oh yum….

I thought the food was great as well as the service.  It’s a bit on the spendy (that’s Minnesotan for expensive) side but it’s worth the money in my opinion.  And the place was packed full of happy diners.  I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you just got a nice bonus ;)
