Now that it’s September and fall is right around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to post some summer gardening photos. First up are some bee balm, black-eyed Susans, pink coneflowers and a cucumber.
Here are a couple of plants from the neighborhood. The first one is milkweed. The second is a mystery plant that I thought was pretty.
My neighbor is also a gardener and this year he planted squash all along the fence between our two yards. They are starting to take over his yard!
Here they are climbing up an old swing set (sans swings):

And now for the most amazing flower that finally bloomed mid to late August, the moonflower. It’s very similar to the morning glory in that the flowers bloom once and they’re done. However, there are lots and lots of buds so it doesn’t really seem that they bloom only once. They could be considered the opposite of the morning glory as the moonflower blooms in the evening and then closes up some time the next morning. The one big difference between morning glories and moonflowers is that the latter has the most wonderful scent. Please enjoy these few shots of my moonflowers.

I´ve never heard of the moonflowers but I would imagine that their scent is heavenly. It looks as though they might be pretty vigorous climbers, is that right?
oh yes, they are pretty vigorous climbers once they get going and I wish they’d get going sooner in the season. I think I may have mentioned this before, but this time I bought a small plant that was already started as opposed to planting seeds. The last time I planted seeds, my first blossom happened mid to late September which is much too late to enjoy them here in the frozen tundra ;) This worked out much better and I’m hoping we’ve got at least a couple more weeks of lovely, fragrant (yes, heavenly!!) blossoms. Thanks for your nice comments once again.
Good idea to buy a small plant to enjoy them a bit earlier :)

Looks like you have a very happy garden. :) The moonflowers especially are so pretty, I’ve never seen those before.
